Geneva Airport to Lausanne, Annecy and Chamonix

Geneva Airport (GVA, Genève Aéroport) is a starting point for three places beyond the city: Lausanne, about 50 minutes by direct train; Annecy in France, by bus 272 or a drive of under an hour; and Chamonix, 88 km away by motorway. This guide gives the times, prices and routes that official sources publish. Ski-resort shuttles have their own page.

Lausanne by direct train

The railway station is under the terminal, a 5-minute walk from check-in. The airport confirms on its own site that trains run direct to Lausanne without a change at Cornavin; third-party timetables give 49 to 53 minutes, a departure about every 15 minutes and a last train from the airport around 11:30 pm. The fare was not confirmed on sbb.ch as of September 2026, so check the SBB app. The airport’s CHF 10 discount is worth CHF 10 per passenger per train journey to or from Genève-Aéroport, on the day of the flight or the day before or after. Get the code on the gva.ch form with your flight number and booking reference, and apply it at the SBB checkout (website or app). It is valid on full-fare, half-fare and supersaver tickets in both classes, covers about 380 stations in seven cantons, Lausanne included, and runs until the end of 2026; City-Tickets and travelcards are excluded. The Geneva Transport Card that hotel guests receive covers zone 10 only. By road, Lausanne is roughly 62 km along the A1 and about 50 minutes, on third-party figures.

Annecy by bus 272 or road

Bus line 272, a cross-border service run by Alpbus with tpg, links Genève-Aéroport Terminal and Annecy. From 15 December 2025 it runs every 10 minutes in the morning peak, with express trips via the motorway from 5:50 am. Fares follow the Léman Pass cross-border tariff, not unireso, so the Geneva Transport Card does not cover it. By car, Annecy is about 42 km and half an hour from Geneva city via the A41; from the airport, it is roughly 50 km and 40 to 45 minutes, a third-party figure.

Chamonix by road or shared shuttle

Chamonix is 88 km from the airport by the A40, the Autoroute Blanche: about an hour by car in clear conditions, 1 hour 15 minutes by shared shuttle. Driving needs the Swiss motorway vignette (CHF 40) for the Swiss stretch, and the French section carries tolls of roughly EUR 6, per a Chamonix tourism source. Without a car, shared shuttles from the terminal run through the winter and some operators also run in summer; quoted fares start from about EUR 15, with typical shared seats up to about EUR 50 one way, and winter Saturdays add 60 to 90 minutes. Annemasse and the Léman Express

Léman Express line L7 links the airport with Annemasse, across the French border, via Lancy-Pont-Rouge; Lancy to Annemasse takes 19 minutes. Since the December 2025 timetable, direct L7 trains run between Annemasse and the airport: the earliest arrives at the airport at 4:20 am (departing Annemasse 3:56 am), the last leaves the airport at 11:54 pm (arriving 12:15 am), with two further direct morning trains from Annemasse (6:27 am and 8:57 am) and one evening return.

Car hire and the border

Car hire desks are on the Swiss side of the terminal and, separately, in the French sector in Pier F. A car hired on one side should be returned on the same side, because of the insurance and vignette problems Swiss press coverage has reported, and because the French sector is reachable by road only via the customs road from Ferney-Voltaire; there is no way to walk between the sides. Since 5 July 2026 the Ferney tunnel closes at night (10:00 pm to 5:00 am on most nights, for roughly 18 to 24 months according to the works notice), so drivers from Ferney to the Swiss side detour via Vireloup or Mategnin; the French sector and its P20 car park are unaffected.
