Geneva Airport to the City

Geneva Airport (GVA, Genève Aéroport) has its own railway station beneath the terminal, and the train is the quickest way into the city. Buses leave from the check-in level, taxis from outside Arrivals, and Uber from car park P4. This guide covers each option, the fares, and what replaced the free arrival ticket.

Train to Cornavin: about 7 minutes

The station is under the terminal, about 5 minutes on foot from the check-in and arrivals halls. Trains reach Genève-Cornavin in about 7 minutes, with up to seven departures an hour at peak times. Many continue to Lausanne (about 50 minutes, no change) and beyond.

A unireso zone 10 single (“Tout Genève”) costs CHF 3.00 at full fare and is valid for 60 minutes on train, bus and tram within the canton. Trains run from early morning until around midnight; the exact first and last departures change with each timetable, so check sbb.ch for an early flight.

Buses 5, 10 and the Meyrin and Vernier lines

The bus station is at the check-in level, next to the railway station. Two tpg lines serve the centre:

  • Line 5 runs via Palexpo to Cornavin in about 27 minutes and continues to Thônex.
  • Line 10 runs via De-Joinville and Charmilles to Cornavin and on to Rive, about 40 minutes end to end.

For the hotels towards Meyrin and Blandonnet, lines 23, 28 and 57 serve Vernier-Blandonnet, and line 57 continues through Meyrin. In 2026 line 23 ends at the airport during the Tram des Nations works, and line 28 is extended to replace it. No tram reaches the airport until the Tram des Nations opens, planned for December 2028. All buses take the same CHF 3.00 zone 10 ticket as the train.

Taxi and Uber

The official taxi rank is outside Arrivals on the ground floor. Fares are metered under the Geneva cantonal tariff. The airport publishes no fare table; third-party sources quote CHF 35 to 55 to the city centre, more at night and on Sundays. Pre-booked “fixed price” transfers at CHF 100 or more are commercial offers, not the official rate.

Uber pick-up is in car park P4 on the arrivals level, in the red VTC zone; drop-off is on the departures level between exits 3 and 4.

The withdrawn free ticket and its three replacements

Until the end of 2021, arriving passengers could take a free 80-minute unireso ticket from a machine in the baggage hall. It was withdrawn on 1 January 2022. Some websites still describe it. Three offers replaced it:

  • CHF 10 train-ticket discount. The discount is CHF 10 per passenger per train journey to or from Genève-Aéroport, on the day of the flight or the day before or after. Get the code on the gva.ch form with your flight number and booking reference, and apply it at the SBB checkout (website or app). It is valid on full-fare, half-fare and supersaver tickets in both classes; City-Tickets and travelcards are excluded. The offer runs until the end of 2026.
  • Geneva Transport Card. Guests of registered Geneva accommodation, including all ten hotels on this site, receive the card free, sent by email up to three days before arrival. It covers tpg buses and trams, trains and the Mouettes boats in zone 10 for the whole stay, including the trip from the airport to the hotel.
  • tpg aérobus. Free buses to the airport between 4:30 am and 6:30 am from the main urban areas, financed by Genève Aéroport. A same-day boarding pass is the ticket.

Night service

The tpg night network runs on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, and on Thursday nights in summer; lines 5 and 10 are listed among the night lines. The tpg page does not say whether their night trips serve the Terminal stop; check the tpg app. The terminal closes overnight: no scheduled departures between midnight and 6:00 am, the last arrivals land up to about 12:30 am and the building then closes until about 4:00 am.
